“Welcome to Craftcation 2017, here is your bible for the duration of the conference. Be sure to check out the pop-up shop. Also, have you seen my mom?”
The jungalow inspired decor at the registration table did not disappoint in the awe moment of walking in to the Marriott ready for Craftcation. *I brought a few home at the end of the conference!*
Carry onward for a complete reflection.
Day one for me started on Thursday. Not much was accomplished other than “Not So Corporate Headshots” with Sarah of Portraits to the People. I’m so excited to see them because Olive was in some of the shots too. Which for me makes sense because she’s such a big part of my life now.
Next was the opening dinner at the beautiful Olivas Adobe. If you’re ever in the Ventura area, it’s worth dropping by. I enjoyed jamaica margaritas and good company at the table of ladies we joined. Olive got a lot of attention because she was the youngest Craftcationer there! Now is a good time to add, that, while I took a baby to the conference, I don’t really recommend it. Especially as a first time mom, it was hard to focus completely on anything knowing my baby was in the hotel. I constantly wanted to give my husband a break (why?!) and spend time with them. At only 6 months old, I wasn’t ready to leave her for 4 days, period. I will also add that this was my second year at Craftcation, and what I learned last year is I tried to do too much. I was exhausted (and also 2 months pregnant). Focusing on mostly business lectures last year, my approach this year was to take craft classes and mingle more.
This year I was responsible for the photo booth set up like I did last year. Because of my added baggage this year (Olive) I decided to sponsor it instead. I found Awkward Moments Photo Booth and worked with owner Sonia. She is based out of Oxnard and definitely recommend her for your photo booth needs.
I met wonderful ladies all of which I hope to connect with more and collaborate with. I also reconnected with familiar faces that I met last year. Mostly I hope to ride on the coattails of inspiration every Craftcation conference goer feels. I made a simple worksheet to help me organize my thoughts and connections. Download it for your own personal use! (Download here)
Scroll through for more photos, I didn’t take a ton and I am really looking forward to The Academy of Handmade’s photos from the weekend and Craftcation’s official videographer LP Hastings.
